March 2020 Newsletter
Welcome to the March newsletter for Arthur Hudson Site Engineers.
General Update
Everything in the construction industry is very fluid at the moment due to Covid-19, so we must all move and react quickly to the latest UK Government recommendations.
This may be long term so we must adapt systems to suit the conditions that we are faced with.
Remember to adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Remember to wash your hands.
2. Keep at least 2m away from anyone outside of your family.
3. Drive to work, try not to use public transport where possible.
4. Take your own lunch with you, avoid canteens.
5. Change out of your work clothes before going home.
6. Ideally park on site.
Office Update
All of our office staff are still working albeit from home! We have recently had a new phone system installed which allows us to transfer calls, provides us with an auto-attendant and gives us an app that mirrors our landline so that we are able to work from home and never miss a call!
We are still receiving calls from customers needing engineers on site, which is great for us. We do have some engineers available should you need someone on site.
We have finished our work up at ESJ. A big thank you to BHC for asking us to work with them on this site. We have had engineers up there for over 18 months now and they have loved being a part of such a huge project. We can't wait to see it complete!
At the moment, communication is vitally important to maintain. All office staff at Arthur Hudson have downloaded Zoom and are having regular meetings whilst being at home. Nick has also been looking into have an 'Arthur Hudson Pub Night' via Zoom for all employees, a great way for everyone to get together in a casual and relaxed atmosphere to try and bring back some normality to those who have been housebound!
Job Updates
From Nick-MD
So I am on day 8 from working from home, we haven’t really got the space for an office, so the dining room table is now a shared deck I have one side (smallest), Jane is at the opposite corner, 3 laptops, an iPad, mobile phones & 2 screens.
Nobody can tell us how long this is going to go on for so we must all adapt systems to suit the conditions that we are faced with. When the phones ring in the office the new system allows them to be answered as if we were sat at our desks- we can even transfer the call from 1 person to another.
The Zoom app is proving valuable to have a face to face chat & to help prevent the feeling of loneliness whist home working.
We are still getting calls for work, which is great, however due to the circumstances that are unique to each site we have today asked the site lads if they want to continue work next week. Some have family members in high risk groups or isolation, & family comes first for all of us. If possible we will run a reduced service working locally from where the engineer is based, it isn’t helping that hotels are not accepting reservations.
We are getting through this – keep positive – keep contact with one another.
